Women's Tennis Opens AMCC Tournament With 5-0 Win Over Pitt-Greensburg




10/8/2016 — ALTOONA, Pa. - In Saturday afternoon's Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament first round match at ProCare Fitness Center, #4 Penn State Altoona cruised to a 5-0 win over #5 Pitt-Greensburg.

With the win, the Lady Lions will advance to take on #1 Franciscan University in the AMCC semifinal round next Saturday, October 15 at 3:00 p.m. at The Club Sport and Health in Monroeville.

Penn State Altoona (6-5, 5-3 AMCC) swept all three doubles matches to take a commanding 3-0 lead heading into singles.

In No. 1 doubles, Michelle Colucci (Middletown, NJ/St. John Vianney)/Brayley Lewis (Roaring Spring, PA/Bishop Guifoyle) were victorious by a score of 8-1. In the No. 2 slot, the duo of Kate Hugendubler (Reedsville, PA/Mifflin County)/Madelyn Seidel (Altoona, PA/Altoona) also won 8-1. In No. 3 doubles, Taylor Stoudnour (Hollidaysburg, PA/Altoona)/Annie Ruggles (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) combined to win by an 8-3 decision.

The Lady Lions proceeded to win the first two completed singles matches, halting play for the day by clinching the match victory.

Lewis prevailed 6-4, 6-3 in No. 2 singles, and Hugendubler also earned a 6-4, 6-3 win in the No. 3 singles match.

Next up, Penn State Altoona women's tennis will play a tune-up match at home against non-conference opponent Geneva College on Friday, October 14. The match is set to be hosted at the Altoona Area High School's Leopold Tennis Courts with a start time of 3:30 p.m.
