Women's Tennis Loses 7-2 to Geneva

10/14/2016 — ALTOONA, Pa. - In its final home match of the 2016 season, the Penn State Altoona women's tennis team was defeated 7-2 by non-conference opponent Geneva College on Friday afternoon at Mansion Park.

The Lady Lions (6-6, 5-3 AMCC) picked up a point in No. 1 doubles, where the duo of Michelle Colucci (Middletown, NJ/St. John Vianney)/Brayley Lewis (Roaring Spring, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle) prevailed 8-3. It was the team-leading sixth doubles win for the team of Colucci and Lewis.

But Geneva (10-5, 4-4 PAC) won in both No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take a 2-1 match lead into singles play.

In No. 1 singles, Colucci battled for a 7-6 (1), 7-5 victory to tie for the team-high in singles wins with seven.

But Geneva won the other five singles matches to take the match by five points.

Penn State Altoona women's tennis resumes postseason action tomorrow, Saturday, October 15, when the team faces Franciscan University in the semifinal round of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament. The fourth-seeded Lady Lions and top-seeded Lady Barons will begin their match at 3:00 p.m. at the Club Sport and Health in Monroeville.
