Women's Tennis Eliminated from AMCC Tournament


10/15/2016 — MONROEVILLE, Pa. - #4 Penn State Altoona women's tennis lost 5-2 to #1 Franciscan University in Saturday afternoon's Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference semifinal at the Club Sport & Health.

Franciscan (12-4, 8-0 AMCC) advances to play in the AMCC Championship tomorrow at 11:30 a.m., while Penn State Altoona's (6-7, 5-3 AMCC) season comes to an end.

The Lady Lions grabbed a point in doubles play, getting an 8-4 victory in the No. 1 slot from Michelle Colucci (Middletown, NJ/St. John Vianney)/Brayley Lewis (Roaring Spring, PA/Bishop Guilfoyle). It was the pair's team-best seventh overall win together.

Lewis continued her strong day with a 6-2, 6-2 win in No. 2 singles, giving her a team-high eight singles wins this season.

But with two points from doubles wins and three more from singles wins, Franciscan clinched five points to halt the match and claim victory.
