Franciscan Tops Lady Lions 1-0



10/19/2016 — ALTOONA, Pa. - Penn State Altoona women's soccer was handed a 1-0 loss by Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Franciscan University on Wednesday evening at Spring Run Stadium.

Molly Malone (Altoona, PA/Altoona) made four saves between the pipes for Penn State Altoona (4-10-1, 1-5-1 AMCC).

After a scoreless first half, Franciscan (5-10-1, 2-5-1 AMCC) grabbed a 1-0 lead at the 51:00 mark. Savannah Luebking passed the ball ahead to Katie Kilian, who floated a shot overtop the goalkeeper and into the net.

Penn State Altoona had several scoring chances -- including hitting the goal post three different times -- but was unable to capitalize to get on the scoreboard. The Lady Barons clung to their one-goal lead to clinch the victory.

The Lady Lions outshot Franciscan by a 18-16 margin on the night, including putting 10 shots on goal to the Lady Barons' five. Franciscan held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Shoshana Mahoney (Sweet Valley, PA/Lake-Lehman) led all players in the game with five shots on goal and seven total shots. Marissa Panasiti (Bellwood, PA/Bellwood-Antis) added two shots on goal and six total shots.

Penn State Altoona women's soccer hits the road this Saturday, October 22 to play at AMCC opponent D'Youville College at 2:00 p.m.
