Four Voted to Men's Golf All-Conference Squad

2016 AMCC MEN'S GOLF ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM

10/21/2016 — ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. - Four Penn State Altoona men's golfers were selected to the All-Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference team, which the league released on Friday.

Voted second team All-Conference were seniors Jared Wood (Hollidaysburg, PA/Hollidaysburg) and Matt Dillon (Roaring Spring, PA/Central).

Wood competed in eight rounds of golf for the Lions this fall, ranking 11th individually in the AMCC with an average of 81.38 strokes per round. He shot a personal season-best 77 in the Penn State Altoona Invitational on September 17 to tie for seventh place individually, and he duplicated that score on October 3 to tie for third place and help the Lions win the Penn State Behrend Invitational.

Dillon golfed in all 10 rounds for Penn State Altoona this season, and his average of 81.8 strokes per round was 15th-best in the AMCC. He carded his best score of the season in the Penn State Behrend Invitational, shooting 76 to finish as the runner-up out of 51 golfers on the day.

Selected to the third team of the All-AMCC squad were freshman Pongthong Thongyai (Patum Thani, Thailand/New Mexico Military Institute) and sophomore Adam Osborne (Tipton, PA/Bellwood-Antis).

Thongyai was 14th in the AMCC in strokes per round, averaging 81.7 per round while competing in all 10 rounds for Penn State Altoona. His score of 75 in the Mount Aloysius College Invitational on September 18 was the lowest score of any Lions golfer this season, and he tied for third place individually in that event. Thongyai's total of four sub-80 scores was tied for the most on the team.

Osborne golfed in all 10 rounds this season. He led Penn State Altoona and ranked ninth in the AMCC in average, shooting 80.8 strokes per round. Osborne shot a season-low score of 77 twice -- once in the season-opening Pitt-Bradford Invitational on September 3 to place fifth, then again on September 12 in the second day of the Allegheny College Invitational. His total of four sub-80 scores this fall was tied for the most on his team.

Penn State Altoona men's golf finished in third place in the AMCC Championships this season. The Lions' total of four golfers voted to the All-Conference team is the most since the 2010 season.
