Men's Soccer Selected to ECAC Division III Championship Tournament


11/7/2016 — DANBURY, Conn. - The Penn State Altoona men's soccer season will continue this weekend, as the Lions have earned a berth into the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Championship Tournament.

Penn State Altoona (11-7-1, 6-2-1 AMCC) was eliminated from the playoffs in its primary conference, the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference, last Wednesday, November 2 with a loss to Medaille College in the semifinal round. But now the Lions' season remains alive, as the team has been granted entry to the ECAC postseason.

This fall, the ECAC Division III postseason is structured differently than in years past. Beginning with this year's tournament, the championship field will be broken out into four regions, with first round play beginning on Saturday, November 12. The winners of each game will move on to the quarterfinals, which will take place on Sunday, November 13. The semifinals are scheduled for Saturday, November 19, and the championship will be played on Sunday, November 20.

The Lions have earned the number two seed out of four teams in Region 4, and they will face #3 Penn State Harrisburg (11-8, 5-4 CAC) in the first round of the ECAC Tournament this Saturday, November 12 at 7:00 p.m. The game will be hosted by #1 Alfred University in Alfred, N.Y. The fourth seed in Region 4 is #4 SUNY-Cobleskill.

This is the eighth time in Penn State Altoona men's soccer program history that the team has earned a berth into the ECAC Tournament, with the most recent time occurring in the 2009 season.

Region 4 First Round – Saturday, Nov. 12 at Alfred University
No. 1 Alfred University (8-7-2) vs. No. 4 Cobleskill (8-8-2) at Alfred 5:00 p.m.
No. 2 PSU - Altoona (11-7-1) vs. No. 3 PSU - Harrisburg (11-8-0) at Alfred 7:00 p.m.

Quarterfinals - Sunday, Nov. 13 at highest remaining seed
Quarterfinal #1: 12:00 p.m.
Quarterfinal #2: 12:00 p.m.
Quarterfinal #3: 12:00 p.m.
Quarterfinal #4: 2:00 p.m.

Semifinals – Saturday, Nov. 19 at highest remaining seed
Semifinal #1: 11:00 a.m.
Semifinal #2: 2:00 p.m.

Championship – Sunday, Nov. 20 at highest remaining seed
Winner Semifinal #1 vs. Winner Semifinal #2 – 12:00 p.m.
