Byers Selected AMCC Men's Volleyball Player of the Week


1/23/2017 — ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. - Penn State Altoona senior outside hitter Jacob Byers (Level Green, PA/Penn Trafford) has taken the first Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Men's Volleyball Player of the Week award of the season, the league announced on Monday.

Byers put up big numbers to help the Lions open their schedule with a 2-1 record against some strong non-conference competition in the Jim Coleman Invitational, which was hosted at Wittenberg University this past Friday and Saturday.

In a 3-1 victory over Southern Virginia University on Friday night, Byers had 12 kills, 11 digs, four total blocks, and two service aces. In a 3-1 loss to Mount Saint Joseph University on Saturday evening, the senior finished with 15 kills, 10 digs, three total blocks, and one ace. Later that night, Byers helped Penn State Altoona defeat Wittenberg 3-1 with 19 kills, six digs, three total blocks, and three aces. At the conclusion of the weekend, he was named to the All-Tournament Team for his exceptional performance in the Coleman Invitational.

For the week, Byers averaged 3.83 kills per set, 2.25 digs per set, 0.83 blocks per set, and 0.50 aces per set.

Penn State Altoona men's volleyball is back in action on Saturday, January 28, when the Lions will travel to face AMCC opponent Penn State Behrend for a 4:30 p.m. match.
