Men's Swimming in Fifth After Thursday's AMCC Action



2/9/2017 — ERIE, Pa. - Penn State Altoona men's swimming found itself in fifth place with a total of 98 points after day two of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Swimming Championships on Thursday at Penn State Behrend's Junker Center.

Penn State Behrend led the standings after the second day of competition with a two-day total of 290 points. Alfred State College was in second place with 157 points.

Included in the Lions' point total were several strong performances in 'A' cut finals on Thursday night.

In the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay 'A' final, Allen Shmurak (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North), John Polidoro (Bensalem, PA/Holy Ghost Preparatory), Tanner Yaw (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra), and Connor Fanks (Ellwood City, PA/Riverside Beaver County) combined for a time of 1:31.21 to come in third place and score 24 points for their team.

Later, Shmurak earned 11 points individually when he came in fourth place in the 50 Yard Freestyle 'A' final with a time of 22.70.

The Lions wrapped up the evening with a sixth place finish in the 400 Yard Medley Relay final, as Shmurak, Tom Weir (Greensburg, PA/Hempfield), Gino Cercone (Allison Park, PA/Shaler), and Fanks posted a total time of 3:53.12 to secure 18 points.

Day three of the AMCC Championships starts tomorrow, Friday, February 10 at 10:00 a.m. with a round of preliminaries in the 400 Yard IM, 100 Yard Butterfly, 200 Yard Freestyle, 100 Yard Breaststroke, and 100 Yard Backstroke. At 6:00 p.m. that evening, finals will be staged for those five events, as well as the 200 Yard Medley Relay.
