2/10/2017 — ERIE, Pa. - Three-fourths of the way through the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Swimming Championships, hosted by Penn State Behrend at the Junker Center, the Penn State Altoona women's swimming team continued to hold fifth place out of six teams.

The Lady Lions possessed 199 points as a team through Friday night's round of finals. Host school Penn State Behrend continued to hold a big lead over the other schools, totaling 410.5 points through three days. Cabrini College is in second place with 326.5.

Highlighting Penn State Altoona's performance in Friday's finals was Paetyn Zeamer (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central), who set a new team record in the 400 Yard IM. Zeamer finished as the runner-up in the 'A' cut final for that swim, clocking in at 5:03.37 to score 13 points. That time broke the previous record of 5:05.64, which Zeamer herself set on November 4, 2016 in a meet at Bethany College.

Later in the meet, Zeamer came up with 10 points in the 100 Yard Butterfly 'A' final, in which she placed fifth with a time of 1:04.00.

Penn State Altoona started Friday's finals by coming in fourth place in the 200 Yard Medley Relay, as the foursome of Emily Booz (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga), Eva Gerhart (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts), Zeamer, and Maria Gibson (South Abington Township, PA/Abington Heights) combined for a time of 2:00.57 to score 22 points for their team.

In the 200 Yard Freestyle, Gerhart finished in fifth place with a time of 2:07.92 to grab 10 points. Booz earned a fourth place finish in the 100 Yard Backstroke to score 11 points with a time of 1:02.99, coming a fraction of a second away from breaking the current school record of 1:02.34 in that event.

Next, Penn State Altoona women's swimming will compete in the fourth and final day of the AMCC Championships tomorrow, Saturday, February 11. Preliminaries get underway at 10:00 a.m. for the 200 Yard Backstroke, 100 Yard Freestyle, 200 Yard Breaststroke, and 200 Yard Butterfly. The finals are slated to start at 5:15 p.m. and will include races in the 1,650 Freestyle, 200 Yard Backstroke, 100 Yard Freestyle, 200 Yard Breaststroke, 200 Yard Butterfly, and 400 Yard Freestyle Relay.
