Lady Lions Set Two More Records, Finish Fifth in AMCC Championships

2/11/2017 — ERIE, Pa. - After the fourth and final day of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships on Saturday at Penn State Behrend's Junker Center, the Penn State Altoona women's swimming team finished in fifth place out of six schools.

The Lady Lions posted a four-day team score of 270 points. Penn State Behrend won the AMCC women's title with 570.5 points, while Cabrini University was the conference runner-up with 494.5 points.

During Saturday night's finals, Penn State Altoona women's swimmers set two more school records. That increased the Lady Lions' total of new team records set to six during this week's AMCC Championships.

Emily Booz (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) won the 'A' final for the 200 Yard Backstroke to score 16 points, placing first with a time of 2:11.94. That time broke the previous Penn State Altoona women's swimming team record of 2:16.72, which was set by former swimmer Brittany Karn.

The team's other record-setting swim came in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, in which Eva Gerhart (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts), Paetyn Zeamer (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central), Booz, and Maria Gibson (South Abington Township, PA/Abington Heights) came together to finish in third and get 24 points with a time of 3:53.92. That broke the program's previous record of 3:54.82 in that event, which was set by Paige Strathmeyer, Kerstie Musoleno, Amy Waldron, and Alexis Deacon on February 20, 2011.

Other standout performances in 'A' cut final swims on Saturday night included Gerhart placing fifth in the 100 Yard Freestyle with a time of 56.82 to get 10 points, as well as Emily Beam (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) placing fourth in the 200 Yard Butterfly with a time of 2:39.92 to score 11 points.
