Lions Come in Fourth After Last Day of AMCC Championships



2/11/2017 — ERIE, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona men's swimming team wrapped up its week in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships on Saturday night at Penn State Behrend's Junker Center, and the Lions placed fourth out of five teams.

Penn State Altoona finished the four-day championship with 270 total points. Penn State Behrend won the AMCC crown with 763 points, and Alfred State College came in second place with 400 points.

In the 1,650 Yard Freestyle, John Polidoro (Bensalem, PA/Holy Ghost Preparatory) and Gino Cercone (Allison Park, PA/Shaler) finished in sixth and seventh, respectively. Polidoro clocked in at 18:51.06 to score nine points, and Cercone finished in 19:26.64 to grab seven points.

Allen Shmurak (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) placed fourth in the 200 Yard Backstroke 'A' cut final with a time of 2:03.23, scoring 11 points.

In the 'A' final for the 200 Yard Breaststroke, Gregory Landis (York, PA/West York) was sixth place with a time of 2:26.73 to get nine points.

The Lions ended the night with a third place finish in the 'A' final of the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, during which the team of Shmurak, Landis, Polidoro, and Connor Fanks (Ellwood City, PA/Riverside Beaver County) recorded a combined time of 3:25.82 to score 24 points.
