Shmurak Named Men's Swimming Rookie of the Week by ECAC

FEB. 14 ECAC MEN'S SWIMMERS OF THE WEEK RELEASE

2/14/2017 — DANBURY, Conn. - Penn State Altoona freshman Allen Shmurak (Newtown, PA/Council Rock North) was selected the Eastern College Athletic Conference's Rookie of the Week in men's swimming on Tuesday afternoon.

Shmurak had a strong week in the water for the Lions, as the freshman excelled in his first experience in the four-day Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championships last Wednesday through Saturday.

During Friday night's action, Shmurak set a new Penn State Altoona men's swimming team record in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 55.24 to place third in the 'A' cut final of that event.

Other highlights from Shmurak's week in the AMCC Championships included earning fourth place in the 'A' finals for the 50 Yard Freestyle and the 200 Yard Backstroke. He was also part of the relay squads that placed third in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay and the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, as well as fifth in the 200 Yard Medley Relay and sixth in the 400 Yard Medley Relay.

This is Shmurak's first ECAC weekly award of his collegiate swimming career.

As a team, Penn State Altoona men's swimming came in fourth place in the AMCC Championships with a team total of 270 points.
