Men's Volleyball Cruises to Wins Over Medaille, D'Youville

3/25/2017 — HAMBURG, N.Y. - Penn State Altoona men's volleyball added two more wins to its season total on Saturday, defeating Medaille College 3-1 and D'Youville College 3-0 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference Crossover Weekend at Hilbert College's Hafner Recreation Center.

With its victories, Penn State Altoona (19-4, 13-1 NEAC) established new single season team records for overall wins and conference wins. The previous record was set by last season's squad that went 17-11 overall and 12-4 in the NEAC.

The Lions opened their day versus Medaille (12-11, 7-4 NEAC). Penn State Altoona won the first two sets of the match by scores of 25-13 and 25-21 before the Mavericks bounced back to win the third set 25-22. But the Lions closed out the match with a 25-22 victory in the fourth.

Bradley Colditz (Upper St. Clair, PA/Upper St. Clair) led all players with 13 kills while adding four digs. Daniel Downs (Reading, PA/Daniel Boone) matched his season-high kills total for the second day in a row, finishing with 12 kills and leading all players with six total blocks (two solo blocks, four block assists).

Jacob Byers (Level Green, PA/Penn Trafford) totaled 11 kills, five digs, and two block assists. Brandon Arentz (Mount Wolf, PA/Northeastern) had 10 kills and eight digs.

Tommy Kisick (Latrobe, PA/Greater Latrobe) led the Lions in assists with 25, and he also contributed three block assists. Billy Smith (Pittsburgh, PA/Upper St. Clair) tallied 16 assists.

Waldemar Rivera-Berrios (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico/Samuel Clemens) put up a match-high 12 digs.

Later in the day, Penn State Altoona wrapped up the weekend with a 25-23, 25-17, 25-19 victory against D'Youville (3-15, 2-10 NEAC).

Byers and Colditz tied for the team-high in kills with 10 apiece, and Byers also notched three service aces. Downs added six kills and a team-high three total blocks (one solo block, two block assists). Arentz contributed a pair of block assists, as well as nine digs and four kills.

Smith totaled 16 set assists to lead his team, and Kisick finished with 12 assists.

Rivera-Berrios again led all players in the match in digs, tallying 11.

Next, the Penn State Altoona men's volleyball team travels to take on non-conference opponent Thiel College on Tuesday, March 28 at 7:30 p.m.
