Men's Volleyball Splits Saturday Non-Conference Tri-Match



4/8/2017 — OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Penn State Altoona men's volleyball competed in a non-conference tri-match on Saturday at Stevenson University's Owings Mills Gym, and the Lions lost 3-1 to #14 Eastern Mennonite University before bouncing back to defeat host Stevenson 3-2.

Penn State Altoona (23-6) faced its second nationally-ranked opponent of the season in its first match of the day, losing 25-17, 25-20, 22-25, 25-22 to Eastern Mennonite (21-11).

Jacob Byers (Level Green, PA/Penn Trafford) led the Lions in kills with 18, and he also finished with a team-high three solo blocks. Bradley Colditz (Upper St. Clair, PA/Upper St. Clair) posted 12 kills, six digs, and two block assists.

Brandon Arentz (Mount Wolf, PA/Northeastern) recorded seven kills, eight digs, two solo blocks, and one block assist. Daniel Downs (Reading, PA/Daniel Boone) added four block assists, and Justin Bannister (Willow Hill, PA/Fannett-Metal) had a pair of block assists.

Tommy Kisick (Latrobe, PA/Greater Latrobe) put up a team-high 38 set assists to go along with three block assists.

Waldemar Rivera-Berrios (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico/Samuel Clemens) had a match-best 19 digs.

In the evening match, Penn State Altoona battled for a five-set win over Stevenson (20-11) in the Lions' second and final match of the day. Penn State Altoona prevailed 25-16, 21-25, 29-27, 23-25, 15-11.

Colditz led all players in the match with 17 kills, and he also had eight digs. Byers posted 16 kills, four digs, and one solo block. Downs finished with 13 kills and three block assists, and Arentz had 11 kills, five digs, and three block assists. Bannister recorded seven kills, six digs, and three block assists.

Kisick tied his season-high total for assists with 47, and he also contributed eight digs, one solo block, and two block assists.

Rivera-Berrios led the Lions in digs with 15.

Penn State Altoona men's volleyball wraps up its regular season schedule this Monday, April 10, when it hosts non-conference opponent Wilkes University for a 7:00 p.m. match in the Adler Gym. The date also marks the Lions' Senior Night ceremony, which will be held prior to the start of the match.
