Baseball Team Ready for Return to AMCC Postseason

5/4/2017 — ALTOONA, Pa. - For the first time since 2012, Penn State Altoona will host playoff baseball games.

With the final regular season Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference games in the books as of last night, the six-team field for the AMCC Baseball Tournament has been set, and it includes Penn State Altoona.

With Pitt-Bradford's sweep of Medaille College last night, the Lions (18-19, 9-7 AMCC) clinched the number four seed in the tournament. As the fourth seed, Penn State Altoona will host No. 5 Pitt-Bradford (13-22, 8-8 AMCC) in a first round AMCC Tournament best-of-three series this Sunday, May 7 and Monday, May 8 at Juniata Civic Baseball Field. It will be a rematch of last weekend's regular season doubleheader between the Lions and Panthers in Altoona, during which Penn State Altoona earned a sweep with 8-7 and 7-6 wins.

Sunday's action will consist of two games, with game one being a seven-inning contest followed by a nine-inning contest in game two. First pitch of game one is set for 1:00 p.m., and game two will start approximately 30 minutes after the completion of the first game.

Should a third game be necessary, it will be a nine-inning contest played on Monday starting at 11:00 a.m.

The winner of this series will advance to the AMCC championship rounds, hosted at No. 1 La Roche College on May 11-14.

This will be Penn State Altoona baseball's first AMCC Tournament appearance since 2014, and it is also the Lions' first home AMCC Tournament games since 2012. The baseball program is enjoying a resurgent season, during which the team has recorded its most overall wins (18) since 2011 and first winning AMCC record (9-7) since 2012.
