AMCC Softball Tournament Cancelled

AMCC Softball Tournament Cancelled

5/6/2017 — ERIE, Pa. - For the first time in 15 years, the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference has been forced to cancel its postseason softball tournament due to weather.

After all of Friday's games were postponed due to rain, the weather continued to produce steady precipitation and unplayable conditions on Saturday at Penn State Behrend, the tournament host. With the deadline to submit the conference champion and automatic qualifier to the NCAA quickly approaching at the end of the weekend, it was deemed that it would not be possible to play the AMCC Tournament in its entirety before that time.

With the tournament cancellation, top seed and regular season champion Penn State Behrend clinches the AMCC championship. Behrend receives the automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament, which begins next week.

Penn State Altoona softball, which was 17-17 overall and third place in the AMCC standings with a 12-6 record, will now await word from the Eastern College Athletic Conference on a possible bid to play in that league's Division III Tournament. The ECAC will reveal its tournament participants after the NCAA Tournament selection process is complete on Monday.

If the Lady Lions are selected to compete in the ECAC Tournament, the team will travel to face an opponent in a first round tournament game this week. If the team is not selected to the tournament, the season will be over.
