Penn State Altoona Finishes Third in AMCC Presidents Cup Race

AMCC PRESIDENTS CUP RELEASE

5/30/2017 — ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. - Penn State Altoona Athletics has finished in third place in the 2017 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Presidents Cup standings.

The Presidents Cup is awarded annually by the AMCC to the most successful school in the conference during the year. That success is determined by a formula which assigns points to each school based on that school's regular season and postseason finishes in each of the AMCC's 18 sports. The Presidents Cup goes to the school with the highest percentage of points earned out of possible points.

Penn State Behrend claimed the Cup for the 13th year in a row, winning 105.3 points out of a possible 121 during the 2016-2017 athletics year for an AMCC-best .870 winning percentage in points. The Lions claimed conference titles in men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross country, and men's and women's swimming and diving, men's golf, and softball. Behrend has won the Presidents Cup 16 out of the 17 years that the award has existed.

Penn State Altoona placed third in the final standings, winning 69 out of a possible 109 points for a .633 winning percentage. The Lions claimed the men's volleyball championship while posting strong seasons in several other sports.

La Roche College was the runner-up for the Presidents Cup, posting a .643 winning percentage by claiming 68.75 points out of a possible 107.

The AMCC is comprised of 10 full time member institutions, each of which competes in most or all of the conference's 18 sponsored sports.
