Basketball Programs to Host Midnight Madness This Weekend

10/11/2017 — ALTOONA, Pa. - For the second year in a row, the Penn State Altoona men's and women's basketball programs will host a Midnight Madness event in the Adler Arena.

The preseason pep rally is set to occur at midnight on the morning of Sunday, October 15 in the Adler Arena. Midnight Madness will allow members of the Penn State Altoona campus, as well as the Altoona area community, to have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the varsity men's and women's basketball teams as they open their fall practice season. The event is free for all to attend.

"I am thrilled for the opportunity to bring Midnight Madness back to the Penn State Altoona campus for the second straight years. I believe it is a great opportunity for our student-athletes, fans, and our campus to get excited about this year's men's and women's basketball teams," said men's basketball head coach David McGreal. "It is also a good chance for our student-athletes to show off some of their skills and also compete with and root for members of our student body. It is going to be a fun night!"

Attendees will have the chance to meet and interact with coaches and student-athletes on the men's and women's basketball teams. The Penn State Altoona Cheerleading Team and Pep Band will also be in attendance to enhance the pep rally atmosphere of the event.

Midnight Madness will feature skills competitions, such as a dunk contest and a three-point shooting contest, along with scrimmages by the men's and women's teams. Fans will also have a chance to get in on the fun by competing in contests for a variety of prizes.

Penn State Altoona men's basketball opens its season with a home game on Wednesday, November 15 at 7:00 p.m. against non-conference opponent Saint Vincent College.

The women's basketball team starts its season on the road with a 7:00 p.m. game on Wednesday, November 15 at Division II Lock Haven University. The Lady Lions' first home game of the season is Wednesday, December 6 at 8:00 p.m. against Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Franciscan University.
