Swim Teams Fall to Salisbury in Home Opener




11/3/2017 — ALTOONA, Pa. - The Penn State Altoona men's and women's swimming teams hosted their first home event of the season on Friday evening against non-conference opponent Salisbury University at the Altoona Area High School Pool, and Lions men's team lost 195-63 while the women's squad suffered a 193-59 defeat.

Tanner Yaw (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) led the way for the men's team, earning the only first place finish of the evening for either Penn State Altoona squad. Yaw won the 50 Yard Butterfly, clocking in at 25.40 to score nine points.

The men's team also recorded three second place finishes during the meet.

In the 200 Yard Medley Relay, the squad of Dominic Woods (Pittsburgh, PA/Brentwood), Tom Weir (Greensburg, PA/Hempfield), Yaw, and Caleb Marasco (Altoona, PA/Altoona) finished as the event's runners-up with a combined time of 1:48.32.

Woods later picked up an individual second place finish in the 100 Yard Backstroke, in which he recorded a time of 1:02.06. Andrew Lesnett (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) came in second in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:31.66.

In the women's meet, the Lady Lions earned seven second place finishes.

Emily Booz (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga) had two individual second places for her team. In the 200 Yard Freestyle, Booz was the runner-up with a time of 2:17.45. She also clinched second place in the 100 Yard Backstroke, finishing in 1:05.32.

Hannah Kimmick (Youngwood, PA/Hempfield) also picked up a pair of second place individual finishes. In the 100 Yard Freestyle, Kimmick was second with a time of 1:05.38. She also finished in second during the 500 Yard Freestyle, recording a time of 6:14.83.

Emily Beam (Tyrone, PA/Tyrone) also grabbed two second place finishes in individual events. In the 100 Yard Butterfly, Beam finished in 1:11.20 to earn runner-up status. She later placed second in the 50 Yard Butterfly with a time of 31.00.

The Lady Lions' seventh second place finish came in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, during which the team of Mariah Lee (Ardmore, PA/Haverford), Ariana Paulhamus (Jersey Shore, PA/Jersey Shore), Alexis Franks (Pleasant Gap, PA/Bellefonte), and Kimmick posted a total time of 1:58.19.

Penn State Altoona women's swimming is back in action tomorrow, Saturday, November 4, when it hits the road to face Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference foe Franciscan University for a 1:00 p.m. dual meet.

Meanwhile, the men's team will be back in the pool on Saturday, November 11. That day, Penn State Altoona men's and women's swimming will both face non-conference opponent Bethany College in a 1:00 p.m. meet at the Altoona Area High School Pool.
