SAAC Volunteers to Benefit Family Resource Center

Penn State Altoona's Student-Athlete Advisory Council volunteered at a recent local event aimed at helping the Family Resource Center at United Way of Blair County.

On Saturday, November 4, student-athletes who are members of Penn State Altoona's SAAC volunteered their time and energy to help run the "Beach Bash" event at Altoona's Bavarian Hall. The event provided patrons with a night out, including dinner, entertainment, raffle baskets, a 50/50 drawing, and more. All proceeds from the "Beach Bash" went to the Family Resource Center at United Way of Blair County.

The money raised at the "Beach Bash" goes to support five main programs at the Family Resource Center:

Toasty Toddler Outreach: Provides new coats, hats, and gloves for younger children during late fall and early winter.

Stuff The Bus School Supply Campaign: Offered in summer before the school year begins, this provides school supplies for children in kindergarten through grade 12.

Week-of-the-Young-Child Celebration: A community fair offering fun, games, and information for families on the importance of early education, health awareness, and overall well-being of young children.

Make Parenting a Pleasure: A program offered three times a year to help families who are seeking information on how to maintain the role of "informed parent" as children learn and grow.

Parents as Teachers: A year-round program offered to parents with pre-natal through kindergarten age children that focuses on positive parenting, school readiness, and family well-being.
