Booz Highlights AMCC All-Conference Team as Newcomer of the Year
2/21/2017 — ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. - The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference announced its 2016-2017 Women's Swimming All-Conference Team on Tuesday afternoon, and it included two Lady Lion swimmers.
Highlighting the team for Penn State Altoona was freshman Emily Booz (Berwyn, PA/Conestoga), who was voted the AMCC Newcomer of the Year in women's swimming. She was also a first team All-Conference swimmer after winning the 200 Yard Backstroke during the AMCC Championships earlier this month.
Booz stepped into the Lady Lions' lineup midseason and made a big impact. At the AMCC Championships on February 8-11 at Penn State Behrend, she had a hand in establishing five new team records.
Booz won the 200 Yard Backstroke at the AMCC finals to clinch first team All-Conference honors and also set a new team record with a time of 2:11.94. In the 200 Yard IM final, she set a new Lady Lions record with a time of 2:19.37 while finishing in third place in the conference.
In addition to Booz's two individual team records, she was also part of the groups that set new team records in a trio of relay events at the AMCC Championships. In the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, she helped her team place third overall with a time of 1:45.62 to set a new team record. In the 400 Yard Medley Relay, Booz and her teammates combined for a time of 4:21.74 to come in third place and establish a new team record. In the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, she joined with her squad to come in third place with a time of 3:53.92 to set another new team record.
Booz helped her case as the AMCC's Newcomer of the Year in three January meets prior to the conference championships. During those meets, the freshman recorded four individual first places (100 Yard Backstroke, 50 Yard Freestyle, 200 Yard Backstroke, and 200 Yard IM) while helping her team win two relay events (200 Yard Medley Relay, 200 Yard Freestyle Relay). Booz was also named the Eastern College Athletic Conference's Women's Swimmer of the Week and Women's Rookie of the Week.
In addition to Booz's inclusion on the All-AMCC squad, freshman swimmer Paetyn Zeamer (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) earned second team All-Conference status for her performance in the 400 Yard IM during the conference championships. Zeamer set a new Penn State Altoona women's swimming record in the AMCC final for that event, during which she placed second while finishing with a team-record time of 5:03.37.
As a team, Penn State Altoona women's swimming came in fifth place in the AMCC Championships.
